Higher Education India

Higher Education in India is one of the most developed in the entire world. There has in fact been considerable improvement in the higher education scenario of India in both quantitative and qualitative terms. In technical education, the IITs, and in management, the IIMs have already marked their names among the top higher educational institutes of the world. Moreover the Jawaharlal University and Delhi University are also regarded as good higher educational institutes for doing postgraduates courses and research in science, humanities and social sciences. Higher Education system in India: Higher education in India starts after the higher Secondary or 12th standard. While it takes 3 years for completing a B.A., B.Sc or B.Com pass or honors degree from a college in India, pursuing an engineering course would take four years and five years (with six months of additional compulsory internship) for completing a bachelor of medicine or bachelor of law degree. Postgraduate courses generally are of two years duration. But there are some courses like Master of Computer Application (MCA) that are of three years duration. Gate Exam Pattern

GATE 2011 Pattern | GATE Exam Pattern

The GATE examination consists of a single paper of 3 hours duration which contains 65 questions carrying a maximum of 100 marks. The question paper will consist of only objective questions. In all papers other than AE and TF, all the questions are of multiple choice type. In AE and TF papers, the question paper will consist of 60 questions of multiple choice type and 5 questions of numerical answer type. For multiple choice type questions, each question will have four choices for the answer. For numerical answer type questions, each question will have a number as the answer. The examination for the papers with codes AE, GG, MN and TF will be carried out ONLINE using computers where the candidates will be required to enter the answer for each question using keyboard/mouse. For all other papers, the candidates will have to mark the correct choice on an Optical Response Sheet (ORS) by darkening the appropriate bubble against each question. There will be negative marking for each wrong answer, except for the numerical answer type questions.

Each GATE paper shall have a General Aptitude (GA) component carrying 15 marks.

IIM new director

Xavier takes over as Ranchi IIM director
RANCHI : On November 8 56-year-old professor from Tamil Nadu, Dr M J Xavier, took over as the first director of Indian
Institute of Management (IIM) — Ranchi.

Before taking up his new assignment Xavier was a professor of Marketing and Director at Kotler Srinivasan Centre for Research, Great Lakes Institute of Management and an advisor to Mode, a Calcutta based marketing research firm. He is an M.Tech in Chemical Plant Engineering from REC Warangal and a Fellow of IIM Calcutta.

Xavier has more than 20 years of professional experience and he has also served as a visiting faculty to a number of business
schools around the country. He has published three books and more than 100 articles in the area of marketing. His book
Marketing in the New Millennium won the DMA-Escorts Award for the best Management Book of the Year 1999.

He has conducted numerous training programs for executives and has also been a consultant to several leading organisations.

Are the Programmes offered by Indian institutions recognised?
